Saw this at Michaelwood services on the M5 this weekend. It looked like an art installation. It wasn’t. I added to it and so did a few other people while we were there.

A handful of the many people I met whilst taking photos for the book.

Feeling hungry? A restaurant on Portland Street, Manchester.

Cigarette bins have become such desirable objects they now manufacture with integrated security systems.

Smoking Outdoors – Only 1000 in print (or maybe less)
Smoking Outdoors is a collaboration of photographer Chris Leah, writer Jez Clark and creative agency Stiff Rowlands. We’ve only printed one thousand of these rather beautifully crafted books, so order yours now.
Carefully chosen paper, evocative photography and laid back design make Smoking Outdoors a truly fitting piece to mark the smoking ban and everything that followed. Each one is individually numbered by the authors and cellophane sealed. Order your limited edition copy of Smoking Outdoors.

On the Sunday, 1 July 2007 something happened in England that had never happened before – smoking was banned in virtually all enclosed public spaces and workplaces.
How would we react? Would people flout the law? How could it be enforced?
If nothing else, it was just going to be interesting to see how us humans, smokers or not, would adapt.
Well, we adapted alright (Darwin would be proud of us). In our corner of the country the architectural landscape changed overnight. Strange structures started to appear appended to pubs, offices and factories. There, the great and the good could smoke without falling foul of the law.
Now we’re not against the ban or for it, we’re just with it. And Smoking Outdoors is a place where you can air your views and get things off your chest.
So share your opinions, your ideas and your photos on anything related to the smoking ban. This is the place to do it. We hope to get an amazing snapshot of what a little bit of legislation can do to a nation.
